Fluting is the precision milling of steel from the exterior of a barrel, with a primary purpose of removing weight, and to a lesser extent, to create rigidity and increase surface area for a given weight, resulting in a higher overheating tolerance. Weight reduction is dependent upon the length and profile of the barrel, with a direct relationship between the length and weight of the barrel, and the amount of steel that can be safely removed. In addition to weight reduction, increased rigidity and heat tolerance, fluting provides a unique way to personalize your rifle while making a bold statement at the range, or in the field. Aesthetics are taken into consideration by our fluting technicians when engineering fluting depths, as they balance the pratcial benefits with elegant design and precision craftsmanship to create your perfect barrel.
